Have you ever wondered what it takes to turn a passion into a full-time career? For me, the journey to becoming a full-time freelancer has been an exciting and fulfilling adventure, filled with learning, creativity, and growth. Here’s how I made the transition from a high school student with a camera to a full-time photographer and social media manager.

My love for photography started in high school. I first picked up a camera in my grade 9 media arts class. Instantly hooked, I started experimenting with photography and Photoshop. This initial exposure sparked a passion that would shape my future career.

Formal Education

Knowing I wanted to pursue photography further, I enrolled in a creative photography program at college after high school. This program was instrumental in my development as a photographer. I gained technical knowledge, learned about lighting and posing techniques, and got hands-on experience that would prove invaluable in my professional journey.

Launching My Business

While still in college, I decided to launch my own photography business. I started booking photoshoots with families and couples, which provided me with real-world experience and helped build my portfolio. I also dabbled in product photography, discovering endless creative possibilities that fueled my passion even more.

Expanding My Skills

To expand my skill set and better serve my clients, I enrolled at York University for a social media management certification course. This additional training allowed me to offer comprehensive photo and social media packages to small businesses. It was a crucial step in diversifying my services and enhancing my value to clients.

I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing clients, from small businesses to personal projects, capturing moments and creating impactful social media content.

Every photoshoot and project has helped me grow and refine my skills. The continuous learning and adapting in this dynamic industry keep me excited for the future. Being a full-time freelancer means I get to do what I love every day, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
